I am sooooo luddite when it comes to AI in my personal life

it really is crazy how quickly people were willing to just let chatgpt do everything for them. i have never even tried it. brother i don't even know if it's just a website you go to or what. i do not know where chatgpt actually lives, because i can decide my own grocery list.

When I say AI has NO place in fandom spaces and someone says "literally!! I only use it for-" no. you do not agree with me. "C.AI is the only-" nope. NO PLACE in fandom spaces. none at all.

Generative AI relies on non-consentual data scrapping from fanfiction authors, from tumblr blogs, from fanartists, which is ACTIVLY HARMING THEM. ALL AI is bad. NONE OF IT should be used.

like i'm sorry but we as a fandom have to stay firm on our anti-AI values. we cannot suddenly start giving AI a pass when it's something we "want to see" like destiel kisses. it's not suddenly fine. we're not going to start using AI to make fanfic scenes come to life or audio AI to make characters "say" stuff we want to hear. you have GOT to be firm on your anti-AI stance. if you start making exceptions then suddenly anything will fly. fandom is for real art and creations made by real people. no AI fanfics. no AI art. no AI rendered "bonus" scenes. no AI audio. none of it has a place here.

I wish there was a way to completely OPT OUT of AI. Like you could set your ENTIRE Internet browser to NOT shove it down your throat.

When social media was getting big, you could just NOT get a Facebook or a Twitter. It was simple as that. You can't do that with AI.

Trying to find a job? It goes straight to an AI filter. Trying to look at art? Here's 100+ ai shit. Trying to look up who was in what movie from the 1980s? GOOGLE GEMINI IS HERE WITH THE COMPLETELY WRONG ANSWER!

Thought I would give people a helpful visual as to how much money Studio Ghibli is valued at compared to OpenAI. It literally doesn't register on the chart it's so low. More and more AI content is starting to flood the Thunderbirds fandom on multiple platforms. AI is soulless, lazy, talentless and tacky, it's built on theft from artists and writers and is harming our planet by how much energy it requires to power it.

I was at a party the other weekend, and ran into a similar situation.

I unfortunately got stuck talking to two tech bros (ended up seated in a corner for dinner, and they chose the adjacent seats) and they were gushing about how cool and revolutionary AI is. one of the bros pulls up chatgpt and says "let me show you something really neat." then voice searches in chatgpt "tell me about [my name], she works for [company] and lives in [place]" (all info we talked about before AI came up)

and to no shock, it pulls up nothing on me. he was pretty bummed about it and was like "whoa I guess you're really offline"

so yeah, internet privacy matters more than ever, especially now that AI is learning from all unprotected information. don't let AI steal from you. protect your data.

it also felt really good to make a tech bro disappointed in AI. I also recommend that.

my little brother tried to show me a "cool trick" where he entered my name and hometown into chatgpt and tried to get it to pull up my personal info like it did on all of his friends, then was absolutely shocked when it couldn't find anything on me

so. keep practicing basic internet safety, guys. it still works. don't put your personal info on social media, keep all your accounts on private, turn off ai scraping on every site that you can, enable all privacy features on social media apps. our info still can be protected, we have to keep fighting for control

So on the 27th DeepSeek R1 dropped (a chinese version of ChatGPT that is open source, free and beats GPT's 200 dollar subscription, using less resources and less money) and the tech market just had a loss of $1,2 Trillion.
